Dice Masters Event at The UKGE 2022

UK Dice Masters Players – It’s time to add a date to diary folks – we’re adding an MoDPDM to the diary for 2022, once again to take place at the UK Games Expo…

An MoDPDM?

If you’re new on the scene then you might not know what an “ModPDM” is: it stands for “The Ministry of Dice Presents Dice Masters…”. In the before times, back when we used to eat in restaurants, drink in pubs, and game in person with other people, we here at the Ministry of Dice would organise face-to-face Dice Masters, and we’re starting up again now we’re kinda sorta in the “after-times” (but not really though… you know what we mean).

The events would be hosted at various locations across the UK, but we would do the organising for the store and bring with us our fellow players and friends from around the UK community. The idea was to make sure that there was organised events taking place for the players, and that there was support going to Dice Masters friendly stores who may have little pockets of Dice Masters going on there.

The philosophy was simple: MoDPDM’s were about community building, giving isolated Dice Masters players something to look forward to, and prioritising social engagement & fun over competitiveness. We experimented with formats, experimented with prizing structures, knocked “Top Cuts” on the head, and encouraged newer players to join us on the promise that fun came before face smashing.

As time went on, things shifted and MoDPDM became the generic term for any Dice Masters event organised by us. It began to include organising events at conventions and, as the Pandemic arrived, we moved the concept online and started to host virtual alternatives. Although – we like to think that even at the more serious events we run with a more competitive tone we still keep the MoDPDM philosophy alive. we’re very proud that the approach has influenced a number of other tournament organisers.

So… now you know… that’s an MoDPDM…

Dice Masters at the UKGE

And we are once again holding an MoDPDM at the UK Games Expo. We’re proud and honoured to be invited to be the hosts of Dice Masters organised play at the UKGE.

The UKGE is the third largest tabletop gaming hobby convention in the world, and has been a key event in the diary for UK Dice Masters since the first UK National Championship took place there. It’s a great time for UK players to get together and roll scads & scads of dice.

Here’s the details…

When & Where?

Date: The event will be taking place on Saturday 4th June 2022

Where: This will be at the UK Games Expo, Birmingham NEC in the Organised Play area

Start Time: The event will open for players to check in at 12:30pm. First round 1:00pm

Structure: The event will be swiss rounds only. The number of rounds will be determined by the total number of participants.

We will not be running any cuts – the leader board will be based on Swiss Round performance.

Matching performance will be decided by “Strength of Schedule” as determined by the tournament organisation system.

We are asking participants to “check in” 30 minutes before start time, to ensure a prompt kick off at 1pm. You will also be asked to provide a team list before the event starts.
