Hot Off The Press! New Gen Con Secret Wars Spoilers!

Dice Masters Gen Con Secret Wars Reveals 1

That’s right folks – we’ve got a brand new Dice Masters Secret Wars spoilers for y’all to take a look at.

Gen Con is happening as we speak, and the Wizkids Fan Appreciation event has just finished. During the Dice Masters section of the presentation there were a few never before seen cards! The main focus was the new look & new feel Secret Wars set, and amongst the promo piccies there were some clearly visible cards we’ve not seen to date.

Here is the Dice Masters section of the slide show that included the spoilers…

We were lucky enough to get an early peek at some of the included cards – so, for your viewing pleasure, here are the official cards released today…

Full Art Basic Action – Daily Bugle

The first notable card peek on the presentation was the first look at a Full Art Basic Action.

We’ve not seen a game text on the Daily Bugle card as of yet, so we don’t really know what’s the what there. BUT, it does give us a look at how the full art BACs are going to be.

The card art definitely illustrates the more dynamic and efforts to make the characters “pop off the card”. The 3 dimensional feel is lovely, and is (to coin a phrase) going to look great in foil. Or, at least, interesting in foil. I imagine that the way the light is hitting the blue in his uniform is going to make for a very eye-catching effect.

Spider-Gwen – The Spectacular

Next up – a look at one of the Origin Pack theme characters: Spider-Gwen.

This is a very interesting card, and will undoubtedly see play for a number of reasons.

It’s a pretty strong “when fielded” effect to begin with, at a decent cost. A 3 cost character that fires 5 damage onto another character has useful potential. Not only that: she comes with no fielding costs, making the “rinse & repeat” re-use you’d look for much more palatable. Use your Dark Phoenix global to your hearts content with Spider-Gwen to set up another shot on your next turn. (And benefit from a little discount in the process.)

She also brings with her a curious global. The opportunity to expedite your combat focussed characters through the dice cycle is certainly worth a closer look, although you’ll have to be prepared to have your opponent avail themselves of it too.

AND, as a fixed card in the Origin Pack she’ll be easily accessible to all players, offering everyone some element of removal for their team.

Invisible Woman – Interdimensional Adventurer

The presentation included the next Secret Wars Super Rare reveal with Invisible Woman.

It’s always nice to see cards that you can focus a team build around at the Super Rare level. I’m a big fan of Super Rares that are not meta defining powerful, but still bring some brewing time to get value out of your pull.

That said; she’s got some stuff going on for sure. A “when fielded” game text that has the potential to remove up to two characters AND then gives yours a stat bump. Sure, I’d give that a go. Giving+3 attack is a pretty strong bump all told, and with a wide field that could be pretty scary.

Like Spider-Gwen she is yet another “when fielded” effect that has the added value of no fielding costs too. This makes a KO and re-field so much easier to manage if you want to rinse/repeat the effect. Shame about that higher purchase cost though – she’s a bit of a stretch to pick up in the first instance. But, once you do have her there is fun to be had.

Full disclosure though: gotta say this artwork isn’t for me. I get it – it’s from a painted Secret Wars alt art cover, but I’m not the biggest fan. Horses for courses.

Terrax – Namor’s Cabal

We continue with another character first for the game: the one-time Herald of Galactus Terrax.

Another brand new character for Dice Masters confirmed! Not the only one in this little tranche of spoilers either.

Despite the high costs on the card (both purchase and fielding) I quite like this card. I’ve always been a fan of cards that encourage combo builds so it’s got the type of appeal I’m drawn to.

He’s clearly got an interesting synergy with the Dark Phoenix global. The meta right now has an on-demand, global speed way of self-triggering the effect. I gotta experiment with that a bit. Let’s hope there’s an interesting. cheap Bolt character to help out…

Dazzler – Alison Blaire

For example: Dazzler!

I was only saying a few weeks ago that the game could use a new low cost Bolt character. Dazzler’s particularly interesting for a couple of reasons.

First – the combo game text that gives free fielding is useful, if a little awkward. Certainly if you want to use Dazzler as a combo with cards like Terrax this is a boon to help manage your costs, but doesn’t fit quite as neatly in all circumstances. It certainly adds an element of rinse/repeat use in teams.

Second – the additional aspect of character damage adds to her usefulness. 2 damage is a massive amount, and won’t get rid of a bothersome Lilandra or Wonder Woman, but can certainly help deal with a wealth of low cost opposing characters you might want out of the way.

As a fan of theme in the game I’m also a fan of the nod to Dazzler’s Spider-Man connection. That’s a nice touch.

Agent Brand – Hel-Rangers

Last up, we have the head of S.W.O.R.D. – Agent Brand.

The first thing I noticed was the re-use of a dice symbol from another previous character. It’s the S.W.O.R.D. Agent from the Guardians of the Galaxy set. I did ask Wizkids about this, but had not received an answer on its implications (it will become further relevant with this set). I’m obviously pre-preparing this article, but maybe it’s addressed by the time of publication through the delivered content that accompanies the presentation.

As to the card: giving ALL you characters the Fast keyword is definitely worth a closer look. I think it’s gone a little under-appreciated for a little while, but has made a little bit of a comeback in Kryptonite Crisis. It works wonders as both an offensive AND defensive measure, and I’d love to experiment with Agent Brand to find some interesting brew opportunities.

There we are then folks – all the new reveals I was provided in advance of the Wizkids Fan Appreciation presentation for Gen Con. I’m embargo’d until the presentation ends, and there may be some additional surprises I’ve not seen, so keep an eye out on social media for word from attendees, or watch for further coverage from us here at BritRollerSix in the coming days.

I’ll be tucked up in bed when this goes live, but the card images will be added to our exclusive Dice Masters Secret Wars gallery at some point during the day on Saturday. It’s the go-to source for all the most up-to-date spoilers & reveals for Dice Masters – it’s even where all the other content creators go to get the most recent card images to share. #TrueStory
