World Championship – Dice Masters Spoilers revealed!

Dice Masters Secret Wars - Distraction - Full Art BAC

The Dice Masters World Championship event is underway this weekend, and as part of the festivities there has just been a number of Dice Masters Spoilers revealed at the Fan Appreciation event!

As an extra little treat Wizkids is known for holding “Fan Appreciation” presentations at large events. These presentations are designed to share a range of info about Wizkids products, current AND upcoming. It will often include a little section on Dice Masters, and has historically been a source of new release information and spoilers. And boy, was there some Dice Masters spoilers revealed.

Here’s a quick look at what’s leaking out from the presentation to us. They’ve been provided by our man on the ground Andy America. Nothing quite like an old school, BR6 first reaction spoiler review (Feels like its 2019 again LOL)…

Mostly Secret Wars Spoilers

As predicted, there was a big push on the upcoming Dice Masters Secret Wars set. It’s no surprise really: not only is it the next set due, but its also the first set of the “new look, new feel” Dice Masters.

Some of what was on display had already been seen, so I’ll not re-tread that. You can visit our Secret Wars page to get caught up on previous reveals. BUT there was some juicy spoiler nuggets for us to get giddy over too…

Distraction BAC (Full Art)

They started off with an example of a Full Art Basic Action card from the set: Distraction.

Dice Masters Spoilers - Secret Wars - Distraction FA - Fan Appr.

We know that there will be 4 Full Art Basic Actions as chase cards in the set. This is always an aspect of a new set that the collectors out there are curious about, so its good to see one. This always gets the excitement going for fans of blinging up their table with interesting card designs.

Incidentally – we actually have this card in our spoiler stash from Wizkids. So… I’m able to post the proper card image I suppose. (they’ve revealed it, right?)

Madelyn Pryor – Baroness of Limbo

The next pic to come our way from Andy America was a slide with 2 cards on it, which included…

A low cost character who gives a Sidekick stat buff is always going to be of interest. Especially for folks like my man Andy England, who just LOVES a pumped up Sidekick. Cheap to buy, cheap to field, but with a deceptive amount of value that soon adds up.

The Global is…interesting? Sidekick making has proven time & time again to be a powerful global. We know the strength of bag thinning and weenie force all too well. However, the added cost of a life may be too high a price to pay. Especially right now, when we have other Modern Legal Sidekick making Globals that are better value.

Do you know what – I’m going to posit a theory after seeing this – maybe there is a mental card we’ve not seen yet that means Sidekick creating Globals need tempering in draft.

Time will tell…

Nice and theme-y game-text this one too – she’s the Queen of the Goblins, she knows how to lead an army of weenies for sure.

Magik – Inferno

The second character revealed on that same slide was Magik – Inferno…

Really loving this one! I’m a big fan of cards that present a combo space you can build around and experiment with. Her ability to get a stat buff from Action use opens up a variety of things to test out and tinker with as we figure out a solid Action or two to pair up with her. There’s a BIG batch of Actions at a cost of 3 or less to think about, with likely yet more unseen to add to the pool in this set itself.

Lots of scope for team building here.

Interesting shift in Magik’s stats here too – I like the better acknowledgement of her more aggressive, warrior outlook & approach.

Invisible Woman – Also Dr. Richard

Next up, Andy sent me a pic of a new, unseen rarity of the Invisible Woman…

Just the rare yet to go now folks and we’ll have seen a full house of the First Lady of Marvel.

this one is notable for a few reasons…

First – I love theme teams, and this version of The Invisible Woman leans nicely into a theme-y, team synergistic set up. A nice, low cost kick off character for a Fantastic Four themed team to use in casual play, or to structure your draft picks around.

Second – and probably the part of her text we’ll hear more spoken of – is the Force Block global. This has the potential to really bring a few cards and team builds that are languishing a little bit up in the “meta hierarchy” for sure.

there’s just too much use for this Global to go into in a “first reaction” spoiler post, but the implications of this global could potentially be far reaching.

It’s going to be fun seeing some of the more creative ways this could be used getting played around with…

The Darkhold

Next the attendees were given the first peek at the first of a new card type we’ve seen; Epic Basic Actions…

We actually new about this card’s text already. In an interview we did with Jimmy (Wizkids Product Manager) on the MoD podcast he spoiled this text as a teaser example of an Epic Basic Action.

For the uninitiated: an Epic Basic Action has special rules/conditions attached. You can only buy or use one per turn, in order to use one you must have a character of 4 cost or higher in the field, and the dice is returned to the card after use.

This one is really loopy. In a game that really uses the old gaming adage that “life is resource” this presents a tremendous amount of opportunity for some “go big or go home” energy that I love.

Played at the right calculated moment this can win you games. Solid bag managers will be able to orchestrate a situation in which this could be played to immediately draw through what you have just bought and get it used ASAP. Its a gamble, but will be epic at those times it gets pulled off.

This is a first reaction post, so I’ve fathomed it fully yet, but I’m definitely going to be thinking on this one. Its a 100% certainty there are folks math-ing this one out already to seek maximum, optimal use out of this card.

God Emperor Doom – Rabum Alal

Next reveal on the list was the first reveal of a new character: God Emperor Doom…

Oh man – that is some sexy, sexy Control right there. I am so happy to see a chunky bit of “While Active” Control here. This could really take the wind out of the sails of some teams.

Its not all roses. He’s not cheap – 6 to buy and likely 2 to field in most instances – which is a big investment to remove the strength of one opposing character. Its also open to your opponent’s shennanigans too; with the trigger at the start of the Attack Step they’ve got a whole Main Step of their own to do something about him and spoil your day.

All that said though I think it’s nice to see some anti-Attack Step Control coming back to give us wombo-combo and direct damage fans a bit of breathing room.

Sweet Comic Lore deep cut on that subtitle too…

Star-Lord – star-Crossed Lover

the next pic I got sent over made me cock my head. I’ve not had chance to speak to anyone that was there yet, but there’s something curious here…

A Full Art version of a card with text? I’m not sure I remember that being talked about. Someone let me know in comments down below if I missed a memo somewhere along the way.

Here we have what I would generally describe as a straight up & down theme-y card. I imagine you’re only really ever going to look at this if you’ve structured your draft pics around the Guardians of the Galaxy. Or you’re tinkering around with some single affiliation stuff.

In the draft I can see this getting play – he could become much more reasonably costed in the right draft situation. However, in Constructed I think there’s better Star-Lords to play around with.

Sweet full-art though…

Ultimate Spider-Man – Life raft Stowaway (Full Art)

Last up – we’ve got another Full-Art card reveal. Again; its a character of another rarity…

There’s not a great deal to say here. We’ve not seen the texted version of this card so there’s little to “First React” to on that front. It’s just pretty, innit.

Final Thoughts

There we are then folks – that’s everything the MoD US Correspondent Andy America sent over to me, shared in full with you lovely folks. Enjoy pouring over these.

I’ve got the proper card images on the way from Wizkids (No early sneak peek for me this time) so I’ll update the spoiler gallery the minute they arrive.

Overall; with this batch of reveals and what else I’ve seen I’m encouraged by the team building potential in this set. Nothing makes me happier than seeing cards we can build around and experiment with.

Little side note: what’s with the weird mark on the screen? Surely Gracelands can afford to upgrade their projector? Right?

I’d love to hear your thoughts – so drop me a note in the comments down below or get in touch in all the usual ways. What’s your fave from these new Secret Wars spoilers? Which are you going to build with first? Any fun combos immediately spring to mind?

  1. Thanks for thr update Chris as always…
I kinda liked the not having a force block as typhoid mary, drax and such weren’t as needed on a team as you could force them to attack… but with force block back they will be full staples again on control teams…

    1. Hi Reg, how’s it going man? Not seen you around much lately, I hope you’re well?

Yeah – it’s time for Control to make a return. #Longlivecontrol LOL
