Dice Masters at the UK Games Expo 2023

UK Games Expo Logo

That’s right folks – the UK Games Expo 2023 is on its way, and we are once again hosting a “MoDPDM” (The Ministry of Dice Presents Dice Masters) event at the convention.

Here are all the details you need to know to get involved…

What’s an MoDPDM?

If you’re new on the scene then you might not know what an “ModPDM” is: it stands for “The Ministry of Dice Presents Dice Masters…” and are face-to-face Dice Masters tournaments organised by us here at the MoD. Nothing more complicated than that really.

The events would be hosted at various locations across the UK, but we would do the organising for the store and bring with us our fellow players and friends from around the UK community. The idea was to make sure that there was organised events taking place for the players, and that there was support going to Dice Masters friendly stores who may have little pockets of Dice Masters going on there.

The philosophy was simple: MoDPDM’s were about community building, giving isolated Dice Masters players something to look forward to, and prioritising social engagement & fun over competitiveness. We experimented with formats, experimented with prizing structures, knocked “Top Cuts” on the head, and encouraged newer players to join us on the promise that fun came before face smashing.

As time went on, things shifted and MoDPDM became the generic term for any Dice Masters event organised by us. It began to include organising events at conventions and, as the Pandemic arrived, we moved the concept online and started to host virtual alternatives. Although – we like to think that even at the more serious events we run with a more competitive tone we still keep the MoDPDM philosophy alive. we’re very proud that the approach has influenced a number of other tournament organisers.

One regular, annual location we’ve been holding events is at the UK Games Expo – the World’s third largest tabletop gaming convention. Since UK Nationals tournaments have stopped Andy likes to think of these as somewhat of an unofficial UK National Championship now – although that may just be because he took the top spot at last years event!

So… now you know… that’s an MoDPDM…
