Dark Phoenix Saga Spoilers

Cable – Bosom Buddies

First up we have the comic book lore inspired uncommon Cable…

Marvel Dice Masters Dark Phoenix Saga Spoilers- Cable - Bosom Buddies

Starting back in 2004, and running for 50 issues, there was a popular team up title with Cable and Deadpool. That makes this Dark Phoenix Saga card super on theme, he’s all about their partnership. Jimmy also mentioned on the podcast that their team up status is also on theme for movie fans too. The combo game-text reflects the very special relationship between the characters, making them a combo to watch in both draft AND constructed.

That artwork too – he looks badass in that pic. It’s a great choice. The quality of the card images continues to get better and better. The Dark Phoenix Saga set is shaping up to be a very pretty one indeed. This particular image is pretty well known – it was a variant cover on a Cable solo run in 2017 drawn by Dale Keown. I dug my copy out of the long box, here it is:

Cable Issue 1 (2017)

Lilandra – Majestrix

Another Dark Phoenix Saga Super Rare is revealed exclusively by the MoD!

Marvel Dice Masters Dark Phoenix Saga Spoilers - Lilandra - Majestrix

This is going to be one controversial card for many of you. The game-text is a reprint of a competitive favourite Jinzo – Trap Destroyer that was polarising to say the least. He used to have as many detractors as fans, and she is destined to be the same.

I love this type of Control. It’s a disincentive for your opponent that gives dishes out some pain early game and limits their choices in the late game. She’s a great card to play for the more passive, apprehensive Control player as it Controls AND helps you win. (I’m really into Control, check out this vid I made about different approaches to Control in Dice Masters CONTROL VID)

Not only that, but she is a “pay life” effect. This means that her effect is must more difficult for your opponent to circumvent with the likes of Black Widow – Agent.

Love or hate her one thing is for sure: she is DEFINITELY going to see some play.

Oh – and that’s Frank Quitely artwork on there. Love his work. Dug this one out of the long box too, check out the full cover…

New X-Men Issue 122

Sabretooth – you Ready to Party?

Another boost to the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants ranks with this guy…

Marvel Dice Masters Dark Phoenix Saga Spoilers - Sabretooth - You Ready to Party?

With the spoilers for the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants we’ve seen so far there is a clear focus on the “Teamwatch” keyword with them. Sabretooth is no different.

With this guy and Mystique there seems to be a pretty nasty chain of combos shaping up that involves fielding and KO’ing to re-field affiliated Brotherhood members. He’s going to be a part of themed Single affiliation teams for sure, but I can see him (and the rest of the Brotherhood) having a strong place in draft. I also can’t shake the feeling that there’s something really competitive brewing here too. (Can you field enough Brotherhood dice in a turn to make everything your opponent has unable to block?)

Storm – Queen

Would it really be a Marvel Dice Masters set without Storm? Well… Dark Phoenix Saga certainly isn’t going to buck the trend LOL. Wizkids REALLY loves her!

Marvel Dice Masters Dark Phoenix Saga Spoilers- Storm - Queen

She breaks Andy’s rule of “don’t play with cards with more than 5 lines of text”, but she’s worth reading.

She comes at a hefty cost, but she’s loaded with value. One way or another she brings tonnes of removal opportunity. when fielded, when she attacks AND even if you whiff her you are re-rolling your opponent’s dice too.

To top it all off – she deals some damage for your trouble too!

You might say that she’s too price-y at a 7 cost and to some degree you’re right. BUT, with the Dark Phoenix global coming in set AND big ramp Basic Actions on the horizon with Superman Kryptonite Crisis it may not be the stretch it appears. She’ll be fun in draft for sure.

  1. Congratulations for the 100th, im most excited about Sabretooth and all the options the brotherhood will get in this set.

  2. Storm’s card needs rewording. I don’t know how these things slip by so many people.

“Move each die that does not roll a character goes to your opponent’s…”

How did no one spot a redundant “move” or “goes”? Or does “face” autocorrect to “goes” on whatever platform they use?

  3. You brilliant guys are obviously aliens from an advanced civilization. How else to explain your incomparably witty banter and your brilliant analysis of such a complex game?
    Explanations, anyone?
    Didn’t think so.
