It’s just one short day away before all the excitement and fun kicks off in Memphis, Tennessee at the Wizkids Dice Masters World Championship event! Look – Jourdo even made a pretty logo for us both to use! Nice one Jourdo!
After the couple of years its been this is such a wonderful thing for us all. You wouldn’t believe the serious FOMO felt at BritRollerSix Towers right now. It fills our hearts with joy to think of all the competitors heading to the home of rock & roll to do some Dice rock & rolling, but I will also confess to more than a little sadness that I can’t be there.
I think that’s fair, because I anticipate nothing short of the most amazing of times for those attending. While many of us have never actually met, I have spoken with enough of you folks to know that the company alone is going to make it a blast. Let alone the fact y’all will be playing our favourite game together.
So, while I sit here lamenting the fact I’m too skint to get out there, here’s a few thoughts from me in the build up to the excitement…
The Beautiful Game of Dice Masters
At present, its looking like all bets are on for a Barry or Master Mold sweep. BUT there is a fair number of us eagerly awaiting those team lists from the “main events” (US Nationals and World Champs) with hopes hanging on the brewing talents out there to bring a surprising build or two that are successful teams. The joy I will feel at the sight of a high ranking team with some wombo combo shennanigans, or a brew that’s cracked the code for Control or Direct Damage will be immeasurable. It would sooo make my day.
And even if it is pretty Barry & Master Mold heavy, I think there’s enough canny players going to be there that we may see some interesting twists even if the win cons are the same. I’ve got faith in the community’s creativity, and just know there’ll be at least one team over & above the winner we’ll be talking about Monday.
And, even if it is face smashing with Barry & Master Mold all day, the energy and atmosphere and awesome community will still make it all worth while.
I swear though; Global Escalation is going to be the one to watch! The Barry/Master Mold meta is one thing, but that event is going to be hella carnage! It’s going to be horrific. Only the bravest (or most foolish) need apply LOL. I’ll be watching out for team lists on that one the same way I rubber neck the 2am pub brawls in Manchester City Centre on Manchester Derby Day. Bloody noses guaranteed.
One things for sure: we can’t wait to see if any of our predictions from the last podcast episode come true…
Fan Appreciation – Any Dice Masters?
With 2022 starting to edge to a close, and with just two upcoming releases on the solicits schedule, I’ll be keen to see what’s discussed for Dice Masters at the Fan Appreciation event.
If you don’t know what a Fan Appreciation event is: Wizkids do a presentation at large live events that often include spoilers and Dice Masters new release announcements. For a bit of a flavour, here’s some coverage from a previous one: World Championship Fan Appreciation Event 2019.
We know that there will be some Secret Wars promotion going on. As the launch set for the new look, new feel Dice Masters they’ll be keen to continue whipping up excitement for that. Maybe some of the new Epic Basic Actions? Perhaps we’ll finally get to see the fantastic feline nature of the new alternative win condition? (That weird turn of phrase there? That was for you Barton…) One way or another, Dice Masters Secret Wars will be a big part of the fan appreciation message.
But what of new Dice Masters releases for 2023? God, I hope so. This year has gone so well with new releases and some momentum it would be awesome to get a look forward and set the scene for what’s coming down the pipeline. Maybe its finally time for the world to see the amazing design work on Historical Dice Masters. Its long overdue. More likely we’ll see some news about House of X (probably).
In any case; I’ll be pulling an all-nighter to report on it as real time as I can, with our US correspondent Andy America on the case feeding me info hot off the press. Although; I suspect the hottest press on that front this year will be over at DMNorth , so I’ll be keeping an eye on their socials for sure.
